Love Will Lead the Way

The gift of this medium is that it whispers to me along the way.

Trust the Process

I feel blessed to create in encaustic because this medium whispers to me in many ways. There is so much heart and soul in my Shellscapes and I know it's because I surrender to the elements of this divinely natural medium and TRUST that it will take me where it needs me to go. Painting in this medium is an ebb and flow dance because the beeswax has a mind of its own and contracts as it cools. Sometimes it creates subtle shapes and images...and sometimes they are not so subtle!

After finishing my largest commission piece to-date, last night I was making a color chip chart of all the colors involved in the painting. It was fairly dark and dinner was waiting so I didn't see this heart at all until I found it this morning when I came back to sit with the painting. When I saw the heart I swear it whispered: "Well done my love, I knew you had it in you."

You see, going large in encaustic is not very easy in my style, so every time I am asked for large paintings my fear and insecurities spike a bit still, even though it is far less than before. Every day I dip my toe in the waters of large-scale paintings I get stronger and more proficient because I have udder faith in this medium and know that if I TRUST, BE BRAVE, and STEP IN it will lead me exactly where I need to go in the creation process. I set my intention to bring forth the love and happiness I feel when I create and ask for the medium to transmit that energy to all who live with my art. When I surrender to the unknown, listen, and am present I know I can trust the outcome...because love will lead the way.

It's just like life really.

PS— There are actually two hearts in the painting's wax surface as well. These are the gifts of this medium.
