The Wild Rumpus II, 12x12"
The Wild Rumpus II, 12x12"
Beeswax is a magical medium to work in. I paint and fuse and then as the wax cools it contracts and the image may change. I aspire to dance with the medium in this creative collaboration. When something unexpected pops up, I often embrace it as an integral part of the painting. The bird seen on the far left was a true delight to see emerge. In the background, there are other bird shapes too. I almost named it Free Bird but it felt more like a wild rumpus!
I hope you too can embrace the unexpected in your life as an integral part of your story!
DETAILS: Original encaustic painting on wood. 12x12,” 2022. Unframed art on a wood panel with 1+ 7/8” depth and white-washed edges. Hanging hardware included. Packed and shipped in insulated boxes to accommodate the fragility of the beeswax.
*Encaustic is a centuries-old painting process with melted beeswax, tree sap (damar resin) and oil paint. Beeswax is a natural surface and medium that may include tiny fibers or textures caught in the wax. This is a natural part of the process. The medium/surface takes two months to cure so treat it gently until then fully. Once fully cured, an encaustic painting can hang over a fireplace without melting. Even after curing it is never recommended to hang encaustic art in direct light, close to a window as the passive solar can cause melting or sweating.
Note: Encaustic is a natural medium that may contain inclusions like air bubbles or particles in the wax surface.
